  • Electrical: mystery wire

I had to peel off the tape and cut into my wiring harness to replace the wires to the positive terminal of the coil. All three coil wires were brittle, cracked/bare for about 10 inches. In the process I found an unstriped red wire with a molded black female spade connector. (NOTE: it's not the lead to the temp sender. It came down out of the taped wire bundle further toward the center of the car than the temp sender wire.)

I can't find any obvious spade lugs it ought to be plugged onto. Any ideas? Possible left over from the previous owners switch over from generator to alternator?

Might be a wire for OD switch only used on OD equipped cars. Not having my shop manual in front of me this is just a guess. Wire harnesses sometimes have unused wires in them as they are pretty much the same no matter what equipment came on the vehicle. I believe my 62 GT has the same wire.

Power to the overdrive relay (if it were to have that option).

OD switch sounds unanymous then. No wonder it wasn't plugged into anything on my 4 speed car.

          Thanks for the replies
