164 Engine Swap??

I need some advice on replacing a 1940 164 engine. What is largest displacement Stude engine that will bolt up to this transmission or bell housing and will fit with the present engine motor mounts? And would I realize much difference in performance? The 164 has good compression but is a terrible dog. Thanks

As far as I know, the Champion 169.6 CID motor will be the only bolt in that will match your transmission. If there were not casting changes, it is possible that a late '50's 185 CID might work. You may also want to investigate getting Bill Cathcart to boost the HP on your engine.
