  • Avanti gas filler mod

In addition to the emblem search, I've been trying to find information on a modification to the filler cap and door for an Avanti. Does anyone recall where I might have seen that?

I posted an inquiry a while back on that. I have been considering a
Corvette style remake of the door that creates the look of a roundish
door in place of the trapezoid one.

Yep, someone did a clever job of modifying an Avanti steering wheel center to fit onto a '68-'69 Chrysler 'Pit-Stop' type fuel filler.
I took this photo of it in Minneapolis in 1994.

Craig, I think that car belongs to Jim Pierce. It is a modified (Chevy powered) '63 Avanti, and it absolutely stunning. The car gets driven all over the country to various shows, always gets a 1st at least.
He lives somewhere in Florida. I recognized that gas cap instantly.

I don't know if you guys are aware of this but that flip open "pit stop" fuel filler that is found on the old Chrysler products was originally meant for the Stude Avanti. It was thrifted out at the last minute. The young designer that worked for Stude at the time ended up at Chrysler and incorporated quite a few Stude ideas into Cuda's and Road Runners.

were of a Corvette of '63 vintage that are not showing up any more:

Bob Johnstone has a modified fuel filler on his '70. I can't find a pix of it and I think he is on a cruise right now.
