Stude to Appear in Up-Coming "Indiana Jones" Movie

I just saw a clip on "Entertainment Tonight" of the filming on the set of the fourth "Indiana Jones" movie, tentatively titled, Indiana Jones and The City of The Gods. My attention was immediately drawn to a Starlight Coupe, a '48 unless I miss my guess, being used in a big car chase sequence. More exposure for Studes!

That would be ME! But they're not for the Prop House, they're for my wife's '55 E7! It's acually a "backup" set--you never know when you might need an extra hubcap or four!

Putting your car in a movie is a dicey proposition--my siter-in-law used to make both her '62 Galaxie and '57 Imperial available for film shoots until a director decided he wanted a white interior on the Galaxie and had the crew SPRAY PAINT the seats white!! The production company's insurance paid for a new interior, but the pain and suffering were NOT compensated. $500/day seems like easy money until something like this happens to you!!!

I've got a new neighbor as of a month ago. He's a car guy all the way, which is nice - since I was the only sort of that ilk on our drive until now.
Cliff has spent his working life at CBS studios in Los Angeles. He's one of the "supporting cast" you never even give thought to when you watch your favorite show or movie. His job was to keep whatever vehicles used in productions, up and running. Even took charge of some restorations when appropriate vehicles couldn't readily be found to meet some producer's needs.
He says it was fun at times and boring at times - alot like many others "jobs" that people do. He'd spend long times away from home while shooting on location for various productions. Talked about working the Nicholas Cage film, Con-Air, in Utah.

I asked Cliff if he'd ever had to work on a Stude in his long career and his answer was "No". He likes Studes and professes to have a car buddy in LA that's a "Studebaker Nut". Says his brother (who also does the same thing, jobwise) has a GT Hawk that worked in the movie LA Confidential.

A couple of years back, I got involved with a couple outta Simi Valley who had a 58 Silver Hawk they'd regularly rent out to various shows (I think "That 70s Show" was one of them or one of those fairly recent "period" sitcoms). This couple had little to NO knowledge of how to deal with an older car. As a consequence, they fried it's engine. I got involved in finding them a replacement engine as they'd gone to various Studebaker "specialists" and had come away with estimates of $4K-UP![:0]
In spite of my best efforts - and finding them a replacement, used engine - the saga went sour once their reluctant mechanic installed and fired up the replacement motor.[xx(] While they didn't hold me responsible (I had no way of knowing what the used engine was like inside OR how it was handled by their reluctant mechanic), I felt bad about it in the end. I tried vainly to locate yet another replacement Stude V8, but couldn't.
Had they not lived so far from me I probably would've gotten more involved in the project, but 300 miles was too far and they resisted bringing the dead Stude to my place.[B)]
If I lived closer to Hollyweird, I'd pursue making my Studes available for filmwork. Heh - I'll bet Cliff could hook me up with the right people to do so. But I'm not willing to commute 300 miles each way every day and I'm not gonna EVER live in LA again!
