I know that this site has handy indexes for engine serial numbers, but does anyone know if there's an index of vehicle serial numbers? I opened my mouth and told an eBay seller that if they gave me the serial number of that later E series truck they are calling a '55, that I could tell them the actual year (57 or later, I'm sure).

So, she sent me this serial number, and now I don't know where to look it up!

E7-11970

Anyone know what year truck that is, or how to find out?

The shop manuals usually have this info, but if you don't already have the shop manual for the vehicle in question...

With that "E7-11970" number, you made me go check. My 1959 deLuxe pickup is E7-11719. A 1959 1/2 ton V8 is a 4E7 starting with serial number E7-11001. Therefore, the truck that you are asking about is a 1959 1/2 ton V8 with either a short or long wheelbase/box. There were 1275 of these manufactured.

Thanks, guys. I replied to her with your info. She has it listed as a 1955.

Nate, I had no idea the starting serial numbers for a given year were in the shop manual. Cool place to put it [8D]. I see that those numbers (and engine serial numbers) are inside the front cover for the 2E manual. My copy of a 56-64 manual has lost its cover page, so I couldn't get the info for a '59 if I needed to.

They are also in the Truck Parts Books.
