  • Could it be possible?

I'm restoring a 55 Chevrolet with a 350 in it and I rebuilt the carb and I swear it's identical to the Carter AFB on my Avanti. It has Edelbrock on the front and Webber on the side. The number is 1405. It looks like the base is the same and the metering rods look the same. Think that'll fit my Avanti?

The carters were used in a lot of applications over the years. Often one of the visible differences is where the fuel line enters the top of the carb. I was recently working on one in an Avanti that seemed to work okay but the choke linkage was definitely different as it would take a long time to warm up and settle to a good idle speed. It had an electric choke that was hooked to the ignition wire at the coil. That wire has reduced voltage when running so the spark was noticeably weaker. The throttle position also seemed wrong but that might be something to get used to. Overall, it worked, just not well.

Just do a search for "Edelbrock" and you'll get lots of hits on this very popular swap as well as the link to the tech manual for tuning your Edelbrock.
