AMAZING... I drive through this town at least once a week- and this was right under my nose![:0]

I bid on it just because; but if someone here wants it I'll be glad to back off; and I'll go look at it for you and check it out if you want!![^]

Sounds like a great idea, Bob...You should do it! [:p]

I remember the days of drag racing column shifts. Usually the rear view mirror is the casualty, not to mention your right hand!

I remember reading an article by Frank Ambrogio stating that he had sore knuckles from hitting his hand on the dash going into second gear. I guess that's what you get speed-shifting an OD eqiupped 56J. :)

Yes, Bob P., Studebaker Sales Letter of April 25, 1957. My copy is now so faded I can hardly read any of it. That Service Letter superseded an earlier one (of course <G>) - November 6, 1956, that I don't have. The referenced Service Letter (4/25/57) was for police, taxi and severe service fleet use and included options for the supercharged engine, HD AT, HD cooling, HD valves and 60 amp alternator.

What is dated Nov. '56, the radiator? That would be correct for '57 year model production.

Yes, it's true~ I'm planning to build something along the lines of what Bob P. is talking about~ trouble is now I have to decide which '57 to do it to...

http://racingstudebakers.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=71

I'm going to ramble now~

After Dad found me a complete 289 GH motor w/ HD auto, I'd always planned to put it in the Parkview. We did, just without a blower on top. Then along came the Commander and a short time later the Champion.
I've also got a lead on a complete President~ also in Glendale Green !!! [:0]
The Commander is a very leaky driver in need of a rebuild on the 259-
the Champion has no motor at all. ;)
I'm leanin' towards building the Champion as the 'HotRod' now, but would leave the the h/d auto in the Parkview, as the Champion is a stick. Then the Parkview could be the 'tow rig' and the Commander would be the 'Friday Night Cruiser'.
With the resources I have, none of this ought to be a problem. :) :D

I sure can't wait to retire next year!!!

Then again~ this car is already most of the way there- the ad says it is an overdrive. If only it wasn't on the wrong side of the Country. :( [V] It would free up the Champion to do something even hotter, though~ like maybe an R3 and a T10 [?] [?] [?]

BAMS~ if you could I'd REALLY like to see some better pics, along with the s/n and body number. A shot under the rear would also be nice- that hitch has me wondering some stuff!!!

Gord H~ Are you saying your motor/trans is for sale? Where in Canada are you? Please send me the pics.

When I attended the PSMCD two years ago, I stood along the fence and mused to Bob that I'd sure like to show up with my '57 Pres 2-dr fitted with a blower. Might not be TECHNICALLY correct to have such a car fitted with a blower, but then, as we know, Studebaker wouldn't have balked at building such a car. Those factory bulletins all but say - FLAT OUT - that they'd do so if you asked![}:)]

Bob,

I have no video but thought that Matthew may have some. I also think that Karl Sparks put up a link for the Twin running on the S.B Forum.

I was hoping to see Malcolm Berry run his R2 wagon at Osceola (or his Avanti), but neither had hit the strip by the time I left.

He didn't run them (durn!). They both have the same drive train (warmed R2, 5 speed). Malcom gave me a ride in his Avanti. Clutch out in low gear on the freeway on ramp. He stands on it. The car breaks loose, jumps sideways and does the same on the 1-2 shift and 3-4 shift. The sound of the almost non existent mufflers and supercharger spooling up are awsome [:p]

Here's Malcom...

Sorry to get back on the topic of the eBay car~ it's what I do from time to time...

BAMS~ the pics I'd like to see would be of both sides- in daylight!
The shots here are shaded- what do the fenders and rockers actually look like?
Some better shots under the hood, maybe?
Anything of the underside of the car would also be good.
What do the corners of the trunk look like?
Maybe pull up a floor mat, and/or the carpet? Where's the gas pedal?
A shot or two of it on level ground is another that comes to mind...
Thanks so much!!!

Got an appointment to see the car Thursday afternoon; I'll get the pics you asked for. Still leaves you plenty of time to bid!;)

BTW- Of course, if anyone here buys it and wants me to, I'll be glad to bring it home till you can come for it, or send a shipper; I'll get 'er on a transport for ya; or any other way I can help!

It'd be a real kick to help someone connect with a car they want- like has been done for me[^] Y'know- pay it forward!

I'll hear it run; if you want any more specific info, just ask!

:) Actually, guys, a similar car to what we have been mentally flirting with in this thread is being built (seriously).

First, check out the inside front cover of the March 2006 Turning Wheels. (It's the period photo of the South Bend Police Dept's new, 1957 Parkview 2-door wagon with 289 flags.) [:p]

True: An experienced SDCer is building a clone of that very wagon in soft yellow, with a detailed 1957 Golden Hawk engine -complete- sitting in front of it, ready for installation. ;)[:p][}:)] I saw the project over a year ago and it was coming along nicely; the body and paint work was done, and the chassis and driveline were detailed to the max; just gorgeous. A few odds and ends were to be finished before the engine was installed. An over-restoration if there ever was one...but he'll drive it!

The SDC member/builder is not on the forum and I am not sure how much exposure he wants, so I'd better be mum as to person and location unless he steps forward. He's in the Midwest, though, and intends to make an an appearance at The Pure Stock Musclecar Drags [:0][:p]:D[}:)] with the beast, armed with Fred Fox documentation (he already has it from Fred) that Studebaker would have gladly built such a critter.

It's a sweetheart and I'll be glad when it appears in the open. (So will all of you, I am sure.) :D BP

I forgot to mention- it's now at $1500, and the reserve has been met.
Just less then four hours to go...
I have yet to bid.

Would I be bidding against anyone here?

Well, I didn't bid on the '57 2-door after all. :( It was a tough decision. Bob's (bams50) excellent picture taking and report to me helped in my decision. (Thanks again, Bob). The car was just a little too rough for me. Am I second guessing myself today? Of course!

For $1500, I think someone got a good deal.

Yeah, what he said!!! I too thought about it, but then I realized I already have a better car then this one was. It had alot to do with the photos Bob took for us...

BTW- Speaking of deals- look at this one that was STOLEN yesterday:

Well, I didn't bid on the '57 2-door after all. :( It was a tough decision. Bob's (bams50) excellent picture taking and report to me helped in my decision. (Thanks again, Bob). The car was just a little too rough for me. Am I second guessing myself today? Of course!

For $1500, I think someone got a good deal.

I've seen and heard this car- and still have the pics I took of it.

If anyone's interested in it and wants any more info, fire away.

Does anyone remember the 1950s TV series "Sheriff of Cochise"? All the deputy cars were '56-'57 Studebakers. An AZ member once told me they were real Cochise County cars.

Bob P. - Is my memory slipping? I thought that the model was a Pursuit Marshal, along with two other Marshal models. I guess that I could look it up, but as usual, I rely on my memory for answers here (helps to keep the mind sharp).

:) Gary: Do you mean Marshal spelled with one "L" instead of two? Just a typo on my part in the original post; yes, Studebaker spelled Marshal with just one "L". :D BP

Just sold for $1463... was at $1200 till the very end.

Interestingly, the buyer has also bought a 50 Buick and 55 Packard in similar condition just this year...[:p]
