  • Fuel System: Carburetor Installation

I am unable to properly tighten the nuts which hold down the 2 barrel carburetor on my 1960 Hawk. I cannot get an open-end wrench or a socket onto them. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.

Could it be the wrench ? I had that once, and just took it to the bench grinder to narrow it down some.

A good Craftsman 3/8" drive socket has always done it for me. If your sockets are too thick, just use the 1/4" drive 1/2 " socket.

One of the nuts may require a box or open end wrench, but those also have fit for me, these nuts should not be all that tight.

Looks to me like a 12 point box end would work.

One nut on the left front of the WW carbs has to be tightened with a thin wall 12 point box end wrench. I use a Mac combination wrench that has the thin wall for those nuts. Sometimes cheaper wrenches are too thick to clear the base of the carburetor making the job tough if not impossible. Bud
