  • Transmission mount spacer

The 232 and DG200 in my '53 Coupe are being replaced with a 289 and FOM from a 1961 Lark. I have been told I do not need to install the spacer in the transmission mount, but I don't think the person who told me has ever personally done this swap. He says why and I say why not. Another of life's great mysteries. Why was it needed to begin with? What geometry did it correct?

Do I need it in my 1953 289 with FOM?
