  • Urgent help needed N8 ???

Robert Andrews came down to pick up the 59 Lark with a tow dolly and broke down about a hour from me on the Washington beltway. A rear wheel came loose on the Studebaker and he lost the brake drum on the side of the road and sheared off all the studs. All I can think of for a emergency repair is to drive the studs out and have new ones installed and tow it home minus the lost drum. I don't have studs, nor a six cylinder rear but I have a V8 drum we could mount (I think it'll work since he does not need brakes) )but it'll be necessary to drive out the studs and use bolts to use the puller. He's talking about dollying it backwards and that's not going to work in my opinion even with the wheel tied off. It sounds damn dangerous to me.
He's close to N8, maybe N8 could help in the A.M if any parts stores are open the 4th or I could drive up. Any idea's ? Robert's cell is 1-315-440-7351

Well, against my pleading, he's loaded it backwards, tied the wheel off and is going down the road. He says he's just fine, but I'm staying up until he stops for the night. He says he's got 20,000 miles on that dolly and is a veteran at hauling old clunkers home, let's all cross our fingers.

If he's minimized the tie rod movement he should be fine, unless he blows a tire or busts the studs on a front drum![:0]

A dolly's not even HALF as good as a trailer![xx(]
