  • Body / Glass: GT Hawk parts on Starliner?

One of the door vent windows on my 1953 Commander Starliner is broken. I need a new frame and has been offered one from a 1962 GT Hawk door. Will it fit? Also, I need a moulding under the left rear side window. My parts book (printed in 1958) says only 1953-1955 mouldings will fit. How about GT Hawk mouldings?

The vent doors will work, the GT moldings will not.

You may be able to cut the extra length off of the Hawk moulding to work on the '53.

They are pot metal and fit 53-58 "K" cars except speedster .

Do you mean the molding that goes under the side window in the rear?

I thought he meant on the interior. Oops.

So did I ; those are stainless, not pot metal.

That is the interior for sure. The exterior are pot metal like Bob P states and are almost always pitted. The Speedster one is, indeed, a little different from the regular 53-58 K. I have a couple of regular K cores that could be redone.

OK. It's winter here, too. They are in my shed and I could go looking this week-end. Will do.

What are the differences in the speedster trim?

I didn't realize that there is a difference in the belt moulding, (on 1/4 panel under 1/4 glass), between a '55 Speedster and a '55 (K) hardtop. One unusual thing I noticed on My late production Speedster is that
the L+R mouldings that join the roof 'Halo' to the 1/4 panel upper rear stainless trim are made of solid brass as opposed to pot (white) metal.
