  • South Bend's Local 5, UAW

We will try and stop by South Bend's UAW local 5's Union Hall to view a bit of Studebaker history
from a different angle. I didn't realize they're the oldest Local in the UAW. Apparently, they are
very proud of their South Bend-Studebaker connection! Local 5 also represented the Union
employees at Bendix and AM General.

FWIW; Bendix was Local # 9 ...Studebaker was Local # 5

To Welcome,----- Thank You for the clarification. I read something about Local 5 helping the Bendix Corp. Workers organize before WWII. Is that correct?

Not really sure about the history of local 9. I know that the usion (9) is still in operation but they no longer keep up a building. The building that they used to use is just down the street from Local 5 and the sign is still there.
