  • Brakes: Help pulling brake drums

I am doing brake overhaul on my 64 Champ Pickup. Cant remember if you can pull both rear brake drums off at the same time, or do you do one wheel at a time? Thats what happens when you get older.

    Thanks,

    Clyde

      Hi Jackb,

Thanks for the quick reply. I remember last time I did the brakes I had ran around getting a brake puller that worked. Guess I had better contact my local Studebaker Club and see if someone has one. Have a great day.

I'm with you clyde. I do one side at a time when doing brakes just to make sure I put everything back the way its supposed to be! Long term memory is ok but sometimes the short term leaves something to be desired.

Auto Arts, motorcycle Arts, truck Arts.....

But seriously, I usually pull both drums, so I can look at the other side when I am doing side 1, just as a reference. NOT all of the springs and clips, just the drums. Springs. retainers, clips, shoes, and adjusters all stay put till the other side is done.

Reminds me of one I worked on-somebody musta referenced the right to put the left together, but didn't reverse every thing! The left was all together same as the right, and ALL backward!
