I've heard and read a few times that you can swap in a Delco distributor in place of the Prestolites. Does anyone have interchange info on this? What Delco models can be used, and are there any mods you have to make?

I guess what I'm asking is, are there any other GM applications I could pull from? For instance, could I take a Delco distrib from, say, a '67 Tempest and slot it into my Lark? Or would the driveshaft etc. need modification?

I recently used an older Delco to check the condition of the 259 in a 62 lark I bought. The Delco was converted to electronic ignition so was easier than trying to make the prestolite work after sitting for over 20 years. The problem is that the Delco is bigger in diameter and I had to remove the wiper motor to get it to drop in. I am sure it would hit the firewall, causing the rotor to break under hard acceleration just like 55-57 Chevys were famous for. I should say that this could also be bad motor/transmission mounts, but...

On the bright side, the little 259 fired up, holds 30 lbs of oil pressure hot, and has no knocks, clunks, or other strange noises. And, its a later full-flow engine. I think I done good on this one.

I'm running the window type dist in my 63 Lark 2Dr. Mine droped right in with the cap & rotor removed. I like it. It is also converted to a pertronics unit. WARNING don't ever try to hot wire a pertronics unit! My girl friend lost the only keys for the car at the store. So I went out to hot wire the car to get it home until I could get a key made. Well, It killed the pertronics. I had to put a set of points back in to drive it home.
