  • Fuel System: WCFB 2214SA manifold gasket - I need your help

My hope to get the engine started this week took a hit when I got the carb to manifold gasket out of the gasket kit. It has holes way bigger than the WCFB 2214SA that is on my 1955. It looks like 3-4 layers of material stapled together. The bolt hole patterns match but it is way too wide and interferes with the linkage. Anyway, I got the parts catalog our. It says for all V-8s other than the 56J, Carter part # 1A-96 or Studebaker # 536093. For the 1956 Golden Hawk with the 352 V8 it calls for a Carter 1A-103 or Studebaker # 440613 gasket.

I tried to find part number 536093 in the SI catalog but could not find one. On page 185, the 440613 carburetor base gasket is listed for the 1956 Golden Hawk & 1955-62 all models with WCFB 4 BBL carb. I need to know if any of the forum members know if indeed the 440613 gasket will work for all the WCFB carburetors. I have attached a picture of the gasket. Is this for the AFB?

That base gasket is definitely for a Carter AFB. The gasket is 'stacked' for heat insulation.

That carb was used by several manufactures. Take your carb down to NAPA or simular parts outfit, HAVE them dig out the catalog with full size pictures and order as needed. I believe that GM used this carb on several models 283, 348 and 327, so it should not be that hard to find. Good Luck Lou Cote

I don't understand why you question the listing, it is as it says. The Stude. WCFB's are very much the same '55 to '62 when they were discontinued. The Part Number 440613 is the original Packard Part Number since the straight 8 Packards used it before Studebaker, that number was continued after the merger.

Studebaker superceeded the 536093 way back in the mid 1950's after your '55 Book was printed.

A little further digging in Motors manual: Buick 52-56, Cadilac 52-57, Chev 55-59, Olds 52-55, Chrysler 55-57, Pontiac 55-56. So they were used by many cars. Rich if you look at the pictures the gasket shown is for the Carter AFB which has larger secondaries. Happy Hunting Lou Cote

I just wondered Charlie,---- Is the AFB base gasket packed in with a WCFB kit? (strange) or did they send You a complete AFB kit?

The gasket came with the "BEST" brand engine overhaul gasket kit.
