  • Can anyone decipher this trim code?

My ID tag on the firewall lists my Lark's trim code as "204." I looked it up in the data plate decoder book today, and couldn't find this code In fact, they didn't have any codes for Standards listed, probably because it was offered for so short a time. Looking at the '62 codes though, I saw that there were some 200-series trim codes for taxi models.

Can anyone tell me for sure what this code translates to? [?]

What? Let us know all the info on the tag...
my guess is that '204' may be just the body number.

Yeah, this would be the first time I'd ever heard of a trim code being noted on a Stude car. C-cab trucks had tags that told the trim and paint codes, but they weren't on the firewall.
And before Gary corrects me, most cars had their paint codes glued to the bottom of the glove box, but they're not trim codes.

Clark, is this number below the 63V-Y2 number? If so, Dave's thinking is on the money. 204 would indicate the 204th 63V-Y2 body tub that was welded up.

The pics don't come up, but the body tag (not "Cowl Tag") is as I've already decipherd. Well, I see it's an F2 and not a Y2. 63V = 1963 V8 car F = 2-dr sedan 2 = Standard trim level 204 = the 204th 63V-F2 body tub welded up.

The engine serial is in keeping with the numbers for a 63 edition of a 259

The carb tag identifies what version of carb you have

The CAR serial# 63V-24795 indicates it to be the 23,795th 1963 V8 car to be built. Serial #s started at 63V-1001 that year. ALL V8 cars were included in the serial number sequence (Hawks too), but not Avantis. And, of course, not trucks either.

Fascinating stuff, actually (really, I'm a geek). How does Biggsy do that?

Anyway, it's strange how the photos won't show up. I right-clicked one, choose Properties from the popup menu, selected and copied the url to the image, and pasted it in the address bar of another instance of my web browser. Then I could see the photo. Strange how that is. Maybe you can replace all your image tags with url tags, and we can just click those links to go see each picture.

Interesting, I find the Carb. 2219S to be a 1957 WCFB Carter FOUR barrel ! The very last thing I would expect on a '63 Lark Standard with 259 would be a FOUR barrel carb! But of course, it is not original. Isn't this the car you showed us the dash of, and it had a nice green one with a vanity in it? The former owner must have been like a lot of us long time Stude. nuts, always bolting on other model and year of Stude. parts to upgrade or change the factory configuration, just because WE CAN ![}]

Yeah, I was going to ask about that carb. According to the shop manual, a 4-bbl on a 63V should be a 3540. It's interesting that this carb is a Stude application, but from a way wrong year!

Is there anyone in Studedome who is a Standard expert? There is so much about this model I don't know, and it's not very well documented in any of the printed stuff I've found so far.

I wish!! No, this one has a "custom" dash cover... and it's very weird.

Someone filled the area where the Standard's plastic "mailbox" would have been, and covered it all with a sewn vinyl cover. I don't know what's under there and I'm actually a little afraid to look [:0]

I put more interior pix at http://studeblogger.blogspot.com/2006/09/interior.html .
