Why do you guys insist on continually doing this to me? I mean you put these really nice 2R's on here and I ending up drooling and acting all crazy because they are so cool. But don't stop, okay. This one is especially nice. Blue w/red wheels. No better paint scheme than that.

Right. I have an NOS one. While the side of the bed was one place they could be mounted, they were really designed to be bolted to the inside of the tailgate on trucks without rear bumpers. Without a bumper, the tailgate just hung down, and the step provided a means to get into the bed. When the tailgate was up, the step folded down out of the way.
