  • Engine: Removing an engine

I am trying to remove the engine from an '82 Champ pickup. I drop the crossmember on a Lark to remove it with tranni attached, but the crossmember on a Champ is riveted. The engine is frozen and I don't want to break a tooth off the starter ring trying to turn it over. Is there any way besides removing the grill panel and radiator frame?

On my Champ due to it being a 4 speed I found it much easier to remove the front bumper, front end panel & radiator support & pull the engine almost straight out. Another bonus is you dont have to pull off the hood & it keeps all your front end sheet metal in alignment.

pull the tranny......remove the hood (scribe marks through the elongated screw openings for re- re-alignment) and the whole 289 w/ AC and manifolds comes out w/o problems....same way going back in....
