  • Electrical: Resistor Pictures Please

    Gentlemen,

Would someone who has an R-1 engine if possible please post some pictures of the resistor that sits on the top of the coil. I believe thee is a missing piece on my bracket as the resistor doesn't sit in the middle of the coil...but juts out at an angle.

    Different angles would be great.

Thanks in advance for the help!

The coil is out of its position but everything else is as South Bend assembled it.

The bracket that it is mounted on comes from the intake manifold where it is held by the 2 screws that hold the coil on non-R engines.

Warren could you remove the number two spark plug wire (first plug on pass side front of car) and measure it streatched out.

Resistors either work or they don't, right?

Just what are resistors supposed to do?

They drop the voltage to the coil from 12v to 7-8v. Generally, 12v cars with points ignition will start on a full 12v, but as soon as the starter disengages, switch to 7-8v in order to keep the points from burning and the coil from over heating.
