  • Avanti Cancun Factory status ?

Anyone know the latest status of the boarded-up Avanti Corp bldg in Mexico? We need to get those 2nd floor museum cars back to the USA and any unfinished 2007 Avanti/Mustang equip vehicles plus the all important fiberglass body molds.

Haven't heard a word. I agree, those museum cars (and other Avanti's) need to come back to the US.

      According to their own website:
      (copy)
Avants were last produced in Cancun, Mexico and last sold in early 2007. The company no longer exists as of mid-2007.

Okay, the factory no longer exists as a business entity.
But someone has to own the assets.

The whole business went into the courts after Mike Kelly was arrested for fraud and thrown in jail back in 2007. The courts did allow the last of the completed cars to be purchased and driven back to the US a couple of years ago; at least one of those was at the Phoenix International Meet in June of 2010. But I think the rest of the assets are unfortunately tied up in the legal proceedings. Folks like John Hull of the AOAI (Avanti Owners Association Intenational) are keeping an eye on the status of what is left.

And remember you guys are dealing with Mexico with its (in)famous "culture" of corruption. That alone can be a can of worms.

Does anyone have a picture of the museum cars that are being referred to here?
