  • Paint: paint color formula

I need the paint color formula for a 1955 Commander(pink/coral/salmon/etc) A related question---How far under the hood and trunk did the exterior color go. Mine is a repaint and is painted pink down out of sight under the hood and every square inch of the trunk. I can't just buy this color off the shelf so help getting the color formula would be a appreciated. Thanks in advance---Jim in Honolulu

Just go to an Automotive Paint and Supplies Store where the body shops go, and have the Color Mixed from their cross-over Formulas. PPG and Dupont should have them.

Solid Color Cars were top coated complete body color in the engine compartment, not always on Two Tones though, some '55's had the firewall one Color and the inner fenders the other.

I believe firewall color differed between LA and SB. This one sold on e-bay a couple of months ago for $34,000. I would suspect the colors are quite right. I have more pics of it if it would help just drop me an e-mail.

1955 two-tone and tri-tone cars were done differently depending on their assembly location- South Bend or Vernon.
The car pictured in post #3 is NOT correct for either one.
I would suggest starting with Fred K. Fox's feature articles covering 1955s, and Speedsters in particular, in back issues of Turning Wheels.
