Friend and I are planning for the annual January pilgrimage to Phoenix for the auctions. He has 6 numbers and is in the process of deciding which cars to take. I'll normally partner with him on one car. The auction we sell at is the Silver Auction at Ft. McDowell, Jan 20 and 21. Yes, R&S, Barrett Jackson and several others are that same week but we find Silver to have "real" cars and a more congenial environment for seller, observer and buyer.

One car that will likely go is an untouched Supercharged Avanti. I'll post more details on this car as soon as I have them.

One of the persons involved with this auction has a collection of Studebakers, there usually are several of them going over the block....

We will once again attend B-J,Russo@Steele and Silver. Silver has the most realistic prices for the hobbyist and we usually spend more time there watching the sale, while at the other two we mainly go to see the cars and vendors. If I were looking to buy, which I am not, it would be at Silver. Mitch Silver is a friend of Studebaker and has even been at an SDC International meet and did some autioneering at auction night if memory serves.

I will wear my light blue Studebaker ballcap since I forgot to bring my FORUM button. Otherwise I would look like thousands of others walking around there. <g>

The name is Merlin Klotz..... At this time we expect to bring an Avanti, a Honda 600 ( tiny rare coupe circa 1969 ), perhaps a real Cobra CSX and 3 other cars yet to be named... Best find us around the cars. Friend I'll be with is George.

I'll be Pricelining shortly to try for a room at the Casino... If you are just going for the week, I can usually get a Windham or Marriott on Priceline for $50 to $60.

I'll be at the Silver on Fri PM also, with my father-in-law, who is still seeking permission from the boss to bid. I liked Silver's listings, but there were lots of typos and switched pix. But that's true of most auction sites.
Anybody know the 52 with the R2?

I don't know the 52 with the R-2 but would trade my stock 52 Starliner for it sight unseen. (g) Saturday we will participate in the Grand Canyon Chapter gathering at the Mel Martin Auto museum at I-17 and Bell road. The Chapter will have a Studebaker display in the parking lot from 10 till 2. After that we will take our Stude to the Scottsdale Pavillions cruise in.

Good meeting all of you.

George sold all but the two Nova's. Convertible comes back to Denver for restore to original SS and the Green had a wire short out to the firewall just as it was to go across the block.... nothing like pushing a car across the block to make it not sell! It goes over to Palm Springs in 3 weeks. Got home at noon today after picking up a highly customized '62 Imperial that a friend bought at Barrett Jackson and hauling it home. The Dakota did well on the Payson hills even with that 5000# slug on my trailer.

Picked up some needed parts for the Speedster and Champ from Richard in Buckeye while there. With the auction in my rear view mirror I'm back on politics and the Champ.

Glad to see you made it back Merlin and nice to put a face with your Forum I.D. Our friend was interested in the green 48 Champion convert but it sold for $28,500, more than he wanted to spend. Probably see you at the International meet in Colorado Springs next year.

That Champion and the URAL motorcycle were units that we took to Silver's and sold last year! The Champion sold for $28,500 last year and only bid to $22,000 this year... still available.

Merlin,I just saw that it was bid to $22K and was a no sale. My 2nd hand info was wrong! I can certainly understand the owner not wanting to take a $6500 hit.
