Since I just recently bought a 1962 Lark Daytona and this hasn't been done in awhile now I thought it would great if everyone posted some Lark pics (especially 1962 hardtops).

Nice car! My first Lark (my second Stude) looked just like that one, It was a black 1959 4-door 6 cylinder automatic with regal trim. That car never let me down.

It my defense, I wasn't the one that wrecked it. Stephen Cade bought it from an insurance company, and I bought it from him after he called me asking "Hey, know anyone that wants some Daytona parts?" Of course he knew that I was working on one at the time.

Still, the nicest 4 speed car I've owned. Of course it's the only one I've owned.

Here's the 63 I've had for about 2 months. Replaced the rear spring shackle bushings, pinion seal, & rear trans seal. The front bumper is not on it yet in this picture. This car runs and drives great. Hoping to get it prepped for paint over the next few weeks.

Scott , those baby Larks in Gulfstream Blue do look good .
I originally bought the car to put a 289 4spd in it but the darn little thing was just so good a runner and great condition I just didn't have the heart to mess an original up so I sold it.

Yep, and I might well have bought that one...was shopping for a Stude at the time...but passed on it because it was too nice...knew it'd be outside nearly all the time in my ownership! Bought a '62 in a similar hue, but much scruffier, and that one was, and is, perfect for me...

Ooooo...a Convair 880! Not often does one see even a photo of one of these, the "other" four-jet early-60s American airliner...the one that never caught on. Today even 707s and DC-8s are infrequently seen; the Convair 880/990 jetliners are virtually extinct, with only one or two preserved (Elvis had one which is displayed at Graceland, and I think Pima might have one). The ramp police Lark's cool too! Thanx for posting this.

Hi everyone,
I dont think we have had a UK Lark pictured. This is a US one I bought a while ago. There are a few Lark type vehicles here in the UK, but you don't see them often. Unfortunately they are probably worth less here than in the States, so here in Europe the appeal is small by comparison to the Hawk related type vehicles. However, Larks are the best driving late model car Studebaker ever made in my opinion, and my love of the make of 'Studebaker' far outweighs the value.

This is my little 63 Hardtop in September 2011 outside the Zetland arms in our small market town of Warwick, where we live and a wonderful pub to stop in for a cheeky pint of beer. St Marys church is in the background on one of the pictures which dates back to around 1100 AD and was at one time a Cathedral, when Coventry Cathedral was bombed out during the Blitz of November 1940, until it was partly rebuilt.

It is a 259 V8 Auto with all the good options and a 3.07 diff

It has been great looking at the Larks.

Regards
Greg

Seeing all of these pics makes me wonder what are the most common Larks around today. I seldom see the 1959 or 60's even though they sold the best. At the shows I go to it's mostly 1962-64's.

I think you will find the majority of Studebakers AND Larks/Lark Types driving today, to be the 1963 and 1964.

I say that not only from viewing Zone, Local and International Meets and "on the road" Studebakers, but also because a good number of '63's were built, and a good number of the last (and IMHO the Best) the '64's were actually saved for those reasons, plus
they have the very latest technology that Studebaker used.

A fair amount vs the few '65-'66's built do survive, but nothing close to the '63-'64 number.

Rich I wouldn't disagree with anything you said, I generally prefer the '63-'64's myself. The 1963 Lark custom is my favorite Studebaker 2-door sedan and I think the 1964 Cruisers are the nicest looking (post-war) 4-door cars Studebaker ever built. Later Larks generally make for better daily drivers today. Another thing most people don't think about is the majority of the early Larks were 6's but by 1964 most "Larks" were V-8's. The flatheads were good engines, but they were slow, the OHV-6's, well...not so good, and few people save 6 cylinder cars (a shame in my opinion). The steering improved in 1961, better wipers & safer brakes by 1963 etc. It all adds upto saving more of the later cars.

Did the flat black as a temporary paint job. Going Kandy Brandy Wine House of Kolor next. I rebuilt the heads and carburetor, put some glass packs on it, now working on the interior. Has some red scallops for the moment. I love this car though turns a lot of heads here in Las Vegas. I also have all the chrome and hubcaps for it. It was a steal at $1350 when I found it. Come a long way.

Nope, no Convair passenger jets on the list, but there is a B58. Perhaps somewhere else in desert Az.

Getting back to Studes, the B17 display has a motor on a stand that is described as being Stude-built, but I didn't see a maker's plate. (Shades of the other post from today.)

About 44,000 "Larks" in 1964, about 19,000 in 1965 and 8,900 in 1966. So yes the last three years were the least produced but many of them were saved probably because they were the last.

Here's a picture of the 1961 Convertible I bought on eBay last summer (from California).

The photo was taken at the Stowe (VT) antique car show in August 2011.

The mountain peak in the background is Camel's Hump.
