'08 St.Catharines ZM again; in retrospect there were no fewer than four of the '58 sedan-based cars at this meet. (For the '58 fans I think I'll post the fourth one now too, a Commander sedan. The other two were the Stude HT with the slight identity crisis, which I think I shall refer to as a "Commandant"!, and the Provincial wagon.)

Does any body know what color the 4 door is? That is the color I want to paint the wagon.

As hard as it is to believe, Carl, that very "purplish" color is known as Shadowtone Red, Studebaker's 1958 color #5822 / BHC.

The more "normal" red for 1958 was Parade Red, Studebaker's 1958 color #5821 / BCR. BP

The Reds that LOOK Purple/Plum remind me of the '65's:

The '65 Red's there were two, both called Red. One was a Deep Red but this one of the James Bell Collection is clearly Orange, Tangerine or Salmon & called Sienna RED.

It is parked next to my incorrectly repainted "Gold" '66 Cruiser at our Whatcom County Chapter, WA Dec. Christmas Party Meeting.

Peter Sauer from BC, Canada and Wife Judy were visiting, that is he checking out the very plush Cruiser Gold cloth Interior.

Member Tom Smith is streaking over to "help"! :D

12756 12757 That is James Bell hiding behind Peter.

We owned a 1958 Packard hardtop for more than nine years. Cathy used it for transportation and we also used it for SDC club events (shows, picnics, meetings, rallys, etc.). It was one of two red and white '58 Packard hardtops in this area. We both showed up at many of these events. That made quite a sight. Ours had the optional all vinyl interior. the other one had the standard cloth and vinyl interior. I sold our car to a dealer in Utica, NY (upstate). I wonder if our car crossed the border and is the pictured car. What interior does the pictured car have (if stock)? I see that the pictured car has the antenna on the incorrect side, but that could have been changed.

Gary , I seen that car when it was under resortation...about the only thing on the car that is original is from the glass up .Interior ...there wasn't one what so ever! There was very little left of the car back then and the person who restored it sure took on a project for sure. I figured he would sink much more into it then he ever would get out of it . The current owner I doubt he ever seen the car before it was restored.

I thought the Packard's paint is Shadowtone, and the Stude is that plum color from '58. I can't seem to locate my color chart- sorry for not having the name of the other color. Can anyone help me out here? Note that one is a metalic, and the other is not. I'll try to post a better picture (or two) of the cars next to each other shortly- it seems that these cars follow each other alot!!!

That purplish plum color is what my wife wants on the 56 wagon.

These are not the best pictures in the World,
but they do show the two cars in the same light~

Anyone who was at South Bend in 2002 remembers the pair, I'm sure!!!
I'd also bet that there are better pictures out there, somewhere...

Woo-Hoo, Carl; wait'll you see the February 2012 Hemmings Classic Car.

'Just got my subscription copy in this morning's mail. It features 1958 automobiles.

On Page 21 is a large, beautiful, seashore photo of SDCer Joe Parson's' 1958 Golden Hawk in Shadowtone Red. BP

I'm still confussed here- is the Commander Shadowtone and the Packard is wrong, or...? They can't BOTH be Shadowtone. I ask because I have seen other '58s in the color on that Commander, and am trying to figure this out. There can't be five or more '58s all over the County that just happened to get the wrong color on them, right?

12781Here are some Shadowtone Red '58's:

I call them all Plum, because that is what they are. I think these all closely match the subject '58 Commander 4 dr. however the Packard Hardtop, not so much. It is closer to a Metallic Maroon true red like a '63 Avanti without enough of the Blue added to cause the Purple/Plum look. It must be a "close" repaint.
