I know everyone out there seems to be installing T-10s, T-5s and everything else under the sun but has anyone figured out any three speed swaps.. for example what could I use if I wanted to get a three speed that had a syncro first gear.

Since I am working with a V8 would a change of bellhousing allow me to use a Saginaw three speed or would a Ford three speed toploader work.

As it is I am rebuilding a T-86 using a T86 and a T-90 Taxi transmission to move my shifter to the floor.

any thoughts?

Greetings, Jeff T.

The '64-65.5 Ford toploader three-speed full-synchro has the same bolt pattern as the Stude Borg-Warner. IIRC, the input shaft is a bit shorter, so you will need an extended pilot bearing.

There were two input shaft versions. The big-block is very rare - I have never actually seen one. The small-block is relatively common. The tranny is hell-for-stout. A Stude will never break one.

The Saginaw, by comparison is about the same strength as the T-86.

thnx, jv.
