Speedo / Tach / Gauges: Quiver

What would cause the speedo pointer to quiver, as opposed to pointing to the stated speed without movement?

This was not the case before the trans was removed to get the new ring gear installed.

Not enough grease?............outside temps at 30 degrees?..........the faster i went the more it seemed to quiver.......

Try lubricating the inner cable first, you may just cure it that way. Colder temps have a tendency of making those problems appear.

Don't use grease. Your local parts store will have the correct lubricant. Looks like light machine oil with graphite. Some speedos also have an oil hole right above where the cable connects. Put a drop or two of sewing machine or 3-in-one oil in there every 20-30 years....

Make sure the cable is not kinked now.

I come up with three ideas:
1) the cable housing is kinked or has a sharp bend,
2) the cable is not seated in the lower gear,
3) the lower gear is not seated to mesh properly in the gear in the transmission.
This all assumes that the cable wasn't removed from the spedometer and the transmission gear is the same one as before.
