Transmission / Overdrive: Pulling a Fligh o matic

I need to replace the front pump on my '63 Wagonaire. If I unbolt the trans at the bell housing, will it slide back far enough for me to replace the pump? The car has an X frame. Have any of you done this?

Hi Its been awhile , But I pulled the trans from my 64 Convert. but I don't think you'll have the room to replace the pump while the trans is still in the car , Ed

Agree! There is room to move the trans to the rear far enough to get the front to drop and clear the bell housing and remove the trans for the work.
