Any Input??? Rear and Front Seals on a 1963 289 Full Flow Oil System Motor
A little more help please.
I have asked for help a couple of times prior to this and you all have been a big help. I have a couple more questions.
So far I have the Pan Off. Oil Pump is off. The Pan is cleaned and I have checked all bolt holes for Flatness.
I have pulled the Rear Main Bearing Cap Off.
I have Purchased a new Rear Seal Kit and repair manual.
First Question is the Bottom Brummer Seal has the Neoprene Seals attached to the Bottom Brummer Seal. I assume these do not get cut even though the Repair Manual for this Motor Shows they are 2 separate pcs and says they should be trimmed. This is confusing. I think they are a new design and they are molded with the bottom Brummer Seal, but they are long and they will over lap the Cork Pan Gasket, is this normal or should they be trimmed flush with the inner groove that contains the cork pan gasket?
Also I laid the Cork Pan Gasket in the Bottom Bearing Cap and it apears to be about a 3/8" too long which then pushes the Neopreane Seals up out off the Groove. Should this cork gasket be trimmed with the bottom bearing cap where it mounts flush to the Block, should the Cork Gasket be trimmed just below the Neoprene Seals? Or is everthing compressed when the Bottom Bearing Cap is put back together? Also I have two small Cork Gaskets that came with the Real Seal Kit. ????
Here is another problem. The book says I should loosen the 3 Intermediate main bearings to get the Upper Brummer Seal Out, now, that Bottom seal Seemed awful tight and I am worried that the Upper Brummer Seal will not be able to be slid out, any Ideas?
One more question is where should I apply Gasket Sealer? and should it be applied to both top and bottom of gaskets?
Now do I have you confused?
Thanks,
Toolhead.
PS Once I get the Rear Seal Figured Out I will be asking some questions on the Front Seal.
