I could not find this in the forum... but is there a parts interchange with other manufactures (Ford, Chev, Chrysler etc) for 50's Studebakers. I own a 56 Powerhawk and would like to know what other parts work with our Studebakers that would improve the function of the car.

Your brakes are already as good as it gets without going to discs. just rebuild them and make sure everything is in top shape; if you need more talk to Jim Turner or there's a guy who posts here who's working on brackets to mount some REALLY big brakes (if you don't mind running wheels >15 inches)

For steering, if you don't have power steering you likely have a Ross steering box, which pretty much sucks. I'd recommend looking for a Saginaw manual box (hard to find) or Saginaw power steering setup (also hard to find, but not quite as bad.) I happen to actually have both (just bought the manual box today!) but neither is really ready for sale at the moment. You'll still have *slow* steering but at least it won't be as sloppy with a good Saginaw box (assuming the rest of your suspension is in top shape.) Once you have everything in good condition, if you decide it's still too slow, you could try the "quick steering" arms sold by various vendors (actually a late Avanti II part) but some people love them and some people think they make the car too darty, so be aware that results are not 100% positive on them. I personally have not tried them yet.

Power - talk to Fairborn Studebaker, Ted Harbit, or Dave Thibeault. Easy hop ups are a 4bbl carb if you don't have it and an R1 cam.
