  • Got room? ('50 StudeBus storage)

After many many snags, I am still trying to go after this '50 StudeBus~

One of the hang-ups is that it has not run/driven in 20+ years.
Another of the hang-ups would be that it is 900 miles away.

In light of that I'm wondering if anyone in the San Fran Bay area (or points North) has any room to store something that big? I think I'd need two months or more to get it mobile or transport it here. My best guess is that it is at least 25 feet long, but I have been told it is less then 30 feet long.

If anyone can assist, please contact me with an email or a PM through this Forum.
    Thanks.

Wow. Not a SenicCruiser, but looks to be in nice shape. No rust showing around the body seams. What's the history with the club insignias?

That is one of the 'snags' I am dealing with. The current owner knows VERY little about this thing. He bought it to flip, and getting answers from him has been less then easy. As I understand it- the prior owner is the one who built it, and was quite active in the NorCal SDC Clubs back in the '80s. One of these days (soon I hope) I can touch bases with him!!!

It does say SDC on the side...pretty cool.
It would make a very cool camper tour bus of some sort.

I'd swear that's old DeFraff, Ohio School District, #3 that I rode to school every day I was in grade school if not it's twin.

Funny thing I think this bus was up north of me by about 250 miles just 3-4 months ago it would have been that much closer if it is the same one.

I wish I could help, just to have it sit in my yard for a while. But, alas, I am way too far away. Good luck!

I remember seeing one like that in the parking lot at Disneyland back in the 1990's. Wonder if it is the same one?

I think I saw this bus advertised for sale in the Bay area? Hopefully one of the members nearby can offer it a place to sit until you can come fetch it.

Failing that, I suggest you contact towing companies in the area, and get a quote for either picking it up and towing it to their yard, and subsequent storage, or picking it up and towing it to an RV storage facility, which might be cheaper storage. Make sure the RV storage place is OK with a non-runner, and will let you do minor work on it while it's there. Since RV storage places store fifth-wheels, they should be able to handle something towed in, but it would best to get all the ducks in a row first.

And it might pay to compare the cost of a longer tow against possibly cheaper storage further away from the metro area.

                    Dave,
This may or may not be of help to you.
I can store it for you. But I'm in Grants Pass, Or. I don't know if that is too far for you or not, but I am "north" of the bay area!
(plenty of room to store it, I have five plus acres here)
Let me know if this will work for you.

It already is an 'RV' of sorts, yes.

Bob- this bus very well could be that bus. It did come from North of you just about three months ago.

Yes- it's been f/s off and on since September that I know of...
Thank you for your other thoughts. I had not thought of some of those ideas.

I now know that this bus NEVER did time as a school bus. I have learned from a member of the SDC Chapter that had it (two owners ago) got it from a local church that bought it new.

George~ I have not forgotten about your offer. I'm still working on transportation and a few other details. If it plays out how I'd like- I may not need to store it at all. I'll be in touch if that changes. The saga continues...

Well, I still think the storage facility is the best idea. that said, if you really need to tow it out of the area, I'm closer than George, if it's just for a little while. You leave it here too long and I just might move it over to one of my motorhome chassis I have here and play with it.

That would make a cool mobile Stude store. Load it up and drive it to a show or swap and open the door like a giant glass display case. Just a wierd thought
