I need some help identifing an engine (or a pointer
to a website with such details).

This is a V-8, possibly a 289 cu.in., 4 barrel carb.

535601 on the block casting, passenger side, top.
P33267 driver's side top stamped number.
535887 on intake manifold.
The fuel pump is down low on the driver's side.

Any help appreciated.
This engine has been transplanted into a 53 coupe, and resides in Lexington Mass.
Cheers, Jon

LOOKING AT MY BOOK IT APPEARS TO BE A 56 289.
THE "P" DENOTES THE CUBIC INCH 289 THE NUMBER IS AFTER THAT
LOOKS TO BE IN THE WINDOW OF THE 1956 STUDEBAKER ENGINES.

except for 1955, P was a 259 in 1955. In any case, a 289 4bbl in a '53 coupe sounds like fun.

Where is the oil filter? (front and center?) is the manifold a tall style? (i.e. no reverse curve on the runners in the lower plane) What kind of carb, WCFB or AFB? (not really necessary to answer your initial question, but the answers are good to know)

Thanks Erin & Nate.

The oil filter is front & center.
The manifold looks low & very conventional. (My ignorance is showing.)
It is a Carter carb. A small metal tag says "22149 A6".
Is there an obvious way to distinguish an WCFB from an AFB?
There are a couple of vacuum ports that are not connected.
Clearly I need a manual that matches the engine.

I have a fuel pump on order from SASCO. The original
is bypassed, and a flakey electrical pump is installed.

(And other electrical challenges.) Cheers, Jon
