  • Transmission / Overdrive: Replacing a Damaged PARK Position Pawl

My '57 Hawk seems too have a "weak" detent or lock in the Park position. I believe the transmission is the Flightomatic. The Shop Manual suggests three things could be wrong:
    1. Manual [shift] linkage misadjusted
    2. Damaged internal linkage
    3. Damaged PARK pawl

My questions in order as above:
    1. Is there a written procedure for adjusting the shift linkage on the Flightomatic (as with the Ultramatic)?
    2. Is there a quick way to determine internal linkage damage with the pan on?
    3. Is there an easy procedure for replacing the PARK pawl?

Thank you once again in advance.

I don't see: engine mounts worn....Over time you need to adjust the tranny lever for such wear. Best done with 2 people.....1 person keeps the lever in the "D" position while the other is underneath adjusting the swivel adj rod for best fit. I find it helpful to bias towards the "N" location for better stop in "P"....

All mounts replaced - front and rear; the front ones worn out, the rears, not so bad. The procedure suggested is pretty straight forward and is similar to the Shop Manual procedure (that I had over-looked before) under adjustments - "manual control valve linkage" - for the Flightomatic. Thank you.
