I have a fiend who has a 1961 champ p/u he has replaced the brake light switch and still has to stand on the brakes to make them go on. I have followed him 15 miles and they never came on once. Whats up ? Thanks for any help!

Was the switch wired back up? Are the bulbs good? Have you checked for current at the sockets?

That is quite typical of a car with contamation in the lines or Silicone Dot 5 fluid eating up the inside of the switch. If the later is the case I would not remove the silicone, I would add a mechanical plunger switch to replace the hydraulic one.

Cleaning or replacing the lines or at least flushing and bleeding, may tell you if that is case or not and could possibly fix it!
