  • Steering: Center Point Steering

What is it that makes it "Center-Point" ?

  • #2
The bell crank to which the tie rods are attached pivots in the center of the crossmember. Longer lower A-arms and longer tie rod have less bump steer than some other IFS designs.

Thanks Jack. What years and models was it used ? Are there drawings from the service manuals on this forum ? Was it a good design ?

Shifter that is exactly what I wanted to see. My Uncle had a 51 Champ or Commander not sure. What were typical alignment spec for center point design. Did it really steer better ?

Steering seems to be in the" arms of the beholder ". There are threads here on the subject . Just use the search box. Here is a link
that is valuable for many tech issues. http://www.studebaker-info.org/rjtechx3.html#Hdamper

If you look at that pic. and run a straight line through the upper a-arm pivot to the lower a-arm pivot through the center of the pivot point of the tie rod ends it should be a straight line. Those lines will cross in the center of the car.
