Original construction of bucket seats

Whenever I get the chance, provided no further family disasters occur, I intend to recover my bucket seats... but before I do anything I wonder how the seats were put together. Are there layers of foam, cotton or what-have-you between the metal frame and the seat covers. Is the padding sewn into the cover or do foam need to be shaped before the covers go on.

If you flip them over you will see that there is gunny sack over the springs, then shaped foam, then the cover which does have the standard thin layer of pleated foam stitched into it to form the pleats. The side "bolsters are formed of shaped foam. Phantom Interiors, a "Turning Wheels" advertiser, has the custom made covers.

I have covers too. My basic set is $290 "driver seat covers) that look factory, or the show set, made from factory pattens and exact for $450. Phantom is about double my show set price. Here's my driver covers pix not installed:
