Greetings,
I'm new to this forum and I'm exploring this repair on behalf of my 90 year old Grandpa. He has a 1940 President and he would like for the NoRol feature to work again. Below is an image of the assembly:

I believe the problem lies in the co-molded rubber seal which has deteriorated over the years. This seal is part of the ball assembly:

The inside portion of the co-molded parts seems to be OK:

Does anyone have any experience with repairing or checking this assembly and where I might go for a new ball assembly?

Thanks in advance!

Josh

WELCOME ...to the SDC Forum!!!

Studebaker International lists in their catalog "Hill Holder seal kits" (a.k.a. NoRol) for Studebakers going back as far as 1941. You may want to contact them to ask if they have any to fit your Grandpa's 1940.

Good Luck!!!

When you talk to SI, ask them specifically if the rubber piece that the steel ball seals against is included in their "seal kit". My understanding is that this seal does not come in the SI kit, but verify with them.

The original (Studebaker/Wagner) NoRol rebuild kits did include the cage/ball/seal, at least the ones I've used.

My uncle already bought a "seal" kit as you both mentioned, and r1lark, you are correct that the rubber seal does not come with it. It doesn't appear to be a piece that is easily replaceable so that is understandable. It appears to be co-molded around the ball assembly so I think I need an entire ball assembly.

Thanks for your help. I will try contacting SI.
