Hi folks,

What is the correct engine block and valve cover colors for a 1953 Commander w/V8?

TIA,

Sean

Olive green engine block with black valve covers.

Not to hi-jack, but to save another thread, what color is a '52 Commander 232 V8 motor color?

Mine is a transplant into my 2R truck but I would like it as close to OE as possible. Right now it is kind of a silver green color.

Same as 1953, olive green block and black valve covers

Interesting, the engine in my 48 Champion is almost without paint, but what I can find seems to bronze.
Any ideas?

All of those late 40's and early 50's engines should be this color.

The chrome bits aren't stock.

Sure, here's a couple:
Most likely just a Auto Garage or rebuilder rebuilt or overhauled engine repainted by them or the owner.

But, you may want to check out the Engine Number. many times a Aluminum Silver later engine '58 to '61 V-8 or in this case a flathead Six from '58 to '60, will after a few years of engine heat, look a bit gold or bronze colored.

OK, Thank you, Sort of hard to see in the photo but looks a little military OD green or maybe the color of zinc chromate primer?

Available in quarts or rattle cans from Stude vendors; pretty much a Bell Telephone green. Just a tad darker than olive drab and, not the least bit drab.

Studebaker Bell Housings and Transmissions use the Engine Color.

The engine block color is the same as 30 weight motor oil was at that time and earlier. That is one reason for the color. I find that what is sold for Packard engines is the correct color.
