  • Hi-buck Studebaker at action.

Finally got around to reading my "Automobile" magazine for August , page 114.

I was surprised to see that at the May auction in Indianapolis by Mecum there was a 55 Studebaker Commander 2-door hardtop that realised $64, 660 on the sale. I'm a little confused because my 55 brochure doesnt list a 55 Comander, 2-door hardtop; is it a President?

t any rate the rest of the writeup states, :Many two-door mid-50s Studebaker designs have stood the test of time and a few, like this Commander, remind us that not every car from the era was drenched in chrome and fins."

Nice to read that others are fond of the pretty, little swoopy coupes.

Sure, Murray; there were "K" body 1955 Champions, too, as well as Commanders, like the one in the auction. BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

I'm fonda them, too. Thanks for posting this, Stall. Mine's just a nice driver, but it appraised in at $30,000 and I have more than that in it. Billy Miles has a Speedster on eBay for a decent buy it now price. Some guy at the local show said: "How much for the Studie?" I have no intentions of selling so I told him $80,000. He didn't hit me so I guess it's almost believable

Well Dave, I'm into cars that have styling that catchs my attention; i own and love mid-year Corvettes also. To my mind (since I was 13 Y/o) the Studebaker Coupe is just sexy. As an adult I never understood why they didnt get more apreciation. While I'll not be selling my Speedster (looked for years for one the right color and Std w/OD) i'm very happy to see one break out of the static price range of the last ten years. By the way my Speedster is what I'd call a good driver. The previous owner won every award the AACA and SDC offered. Soon after I bought it I took it to an AACA Grand National and re-did the "National Winner" thing they require for a new owner. At Lancaster SDC I took a first after drivingit there. It's now a driver and I enjoy the hell out of taking it on our local clubs week long tours. It's a pretty car and deserves to be driven and enjoyed.
