Converting my 48 Champ to 12 volt. Do i need to use a volt drop on the trans for the O.D to work?

There's enough amerage there it probably won't work. I hope someone can confirm that a 12 volt solenoid will work. The governor will be fine, it's just a switch.

Use a 12 volt solenoid; it will fit fine. A voltage dropping resistor won't work, as the solenoid has a high-current mode as it engages, and a low-current mode as it stays engaged. A resistor sized right for the high-current mode will pass too much current for the low-current mode, and might cause the solenoid to burn out. A resistor sized right for the low-current mode won't pass enough juice for the high-current (pull-in) mode, and the solenoid may work sluggishly or not at all.
