  • High body tag number

    We have talked about low body tag numbers, but this 50 Champion on eBay has the highest body tag number I have seen. Has anyone seen a higher one?

    Dang it Leonard. Now I have to go around and look under the hood of 30+ Studebakers and see what the highest number is. [)]

                I think high body numbers are a byproduct of good sales year and a popular body style. You'll never see a high body number like that on a convertible. But on a 4-door sedan, especially from '47-'51 and '59-'60, I think you'll find there are plenty.

                    The 9G series (1950) should yield the highest body #

                        The number doesn't seem so high when you consider that there were 93,800 two door sedans and 168,307 four door sedans built for the 1950 model year. Keep in mind that 1950 was the biggest production year.

                            I also looked into my stash of body tags and found;

                            > lowest body number- # 42, 1958 Packard 2 door hardtop, model 58L-J8

                            < highest body number observed- # 139437, 1964 Champ pickup, model 8E5-112-T6, a pickup found in Charlottesville, VA, was for sale and I have lost track of it.

                            < lowest body number observed- # 5, 1955 Champion Custom 4 door, model 16G6-W2, serial number G1236215, car is owned by a member of the Greater Virginia Chapter.
