Studebakers I saw at Hot August Nights

Here is the link to the Studes I saw up in Reno and Sparks this week. Seems we were pretty well represented. Had lots of chances to talk "Studes" with folks including the curious and other Studebaker owners. Check out the pictures to see some very nice cars. Seems there were more "Pure Studebakers" this year than in the past. I think it's great that folks are bringing them into general type events like this. One of the food vendors even had a picture of a '54 on the front of their booth! Had to eat there!

In Vinton, Ia last night they had their Cruise In of about 500 cars and only Three Studebakers there. Looks like there was a good attendance of Studes there.

Thanks for sharing Pat. That flamed blue 53C really caught my attention. Loved how the flames were carried over the edges of the fenders onto the inner fenders. Didja notice the lower crankshaft pulley...is a blower in the works for this car? Thanks again, Junior

I did notice that pulley, I talked to the owner for quite some time and he never mentioned a blower. His theme is to try to apply vintage speed parts to make it run as well as possible. All the visible engine parts are vintage, no repops.

As for the ratio of Studebakers, there were 6 thousand (6,000) cars registered for the event and it is spread among venues all over Reno and Sparks so I know I did not see everything, still seeing a dozen or more Studebakers was refreshing! I know of several more cars that were there that I did not get a chance to take pictures of.

Oh, one more thing, they had a little short drag race track set up near one of the Casinos. It was a short course, about 440 feet and they ran against an 8.00 index. Faster than that and you broke out, disqualified. After dinner on Saturday night I just couldn't resist and signed up to race. I represented Studebaker well, winning all three of my matches. I also ran an 8.006 which was the closest to the index for the day (though one fellow ran a 7.999), and on the last pass I figured out when I could leave on tree and had a .050 reaction time which they said was also the best of the night. I'm not sure if I did all that well or just did a lousy job of red lighting. Also the announcer raved about the '53 Studebaker every time I came to the line. So lots more people know about Studebakers now at least.
