  • Original engine or not?

    While cleaning the motor for repaint it became clear that there was another color under the turqoise. It may have been primer but seems unlikely. Here are a few photos from the block. It it is in my 1957 Silver Hawk. Last one is of the tranny numbers.

    Your engine number P51711 falls between P39601 and P60701 so would be a 57 289 engine.

        From the poor color quality pics, it appears that there is bare cast iron under the turquoise, rust, or the Gliptol? Red oxide color block casting crankcase sealant which is overspray from the inside, nothing unusual.
