  • Salt2Salt 2011 Project dyno run

I have uploaded a bit of the dyno run on youtube:
After getting the engine to start, we determine that the carb is too big, but manage to still learn a lot. The engine is a 182" Stude v8 destroked to 2.5". L...

This is possibly the smallest displacement Stude V8 known to exist, with a 2.5" stroke. Later in the day, the engine pulled 7700+ rpm under load (using just the primaries of a 750 cfm carb). The engine is now in the car and may be ready for start-up and a drive tomorrow night.

We anticipate, from the dyno programs, that when the correct carb is in place, we will be making maybe 250 ft-lbs and over 300 hp. We plan on about a 410 cfm carb which was not available at the dyno session. The dyno was really not well suited to our little engine, but if we have time, we will take the car in for chassis dyno before leaving for the salt.

Wander over to our pit and introduce yourself! We will likely be near Dave Bloomberg, the Avanti Kid #1963 which is usually about 2/3rds the way down the pits right up against the long course return road. Might look for an old bus painted like a 57' Pontiac Starchief (Acme Speed Shop) and ask directions to the Blue Suede Stude #4594. We should roll into Wendover on Friday night and leave Thursday or Friday morning.

greg, i plan on being at bonneville the first of the week. from what i undersatnd i just can't wander over to the pit area unless i am somehow associated with a car. otherwise i will be confined to the general admission area. if in fact that is true can you register me as authorized to come out to the pit area? staying out of your way will be my first priority but if you need help i ll be there! i have been driving 53/54 coupes on and since the early 60s and bonneville has been on my radar since then so anything you can do will be appreciated. thx, ed

As I write, we are careening down the road in Jim McCuan's one ton pulling the race car thru Iowa.

We are streaming video from time to time on the road and plan to do so during the rest of the trip. You may see us in the truck, pits, food and fuel stops or even during a run if you're lucky. No real schedule thus far. Go to my UStream feed for Rabid Snail Racing and join us on the trip. You can post questions and comment too.
