  • Transmission / Overdrive: How to replace transmission mount on a 1953 2R5

My truck is 53' 2R5 with an o.d trans. Bought the new mount and went under the truck to install it.
I took the bolts out that hold the mount to the cross member, and now can't see how to remove the mount from the trans. Jacked the trans up and it hits the floor before the is enough clearance to get a wrench in to remove the bolts. Any suggestions?
Can't imagine I would have to slide the trans back to change the mount.

    Thanks,
    Lee

The new mount I bought has an opening on each side that I may be able to get a wrench on the bolt to install it. however the old mount has rubber over the sides and I cannot access the bolt. When I have more time I am thinking of cutting all the rubber out of the way to get a wrench in from the side, still don't see how to get a wrench in from the bottom.

Probably the way it is done is to unbolt the front engine mounts, and using an engine saddle sitting on the Oil Pan bolts, raise the entire assy. level, to excess the bolts. Sounds like more work than just cutting away the mushroomed rubber!
