I just have a question for anybody that can answer me. I am not a member of any club,yet,but can I come to Omaha and see all the Studes. I am a proud owner of a 56 powerhawk,but it is 'in progress' at this time. If we can come view the cars ,would Thursday be the best day? Any information would be appreciated.

Anyone can come and view the cars and Thursday would be the best day as they will all be on the showfield. Please consider joining SDC, the magazine alone is worth the price of membership which currently is$1995 for new members. See me and I will give you a sample copy of Turning Wheels.Ask any staff member and they will point me out to you.

You're missing out on some great reading if you're not getting Turning Wheels deliverd to your mailbox.:(

Where do you hail from and what's the status of your Hawk???[:p] We wanna hear about it!:D

Thanks for the info on the omaha show. I will be there thursday and will bring another Stude owner with me. We will probably both join SDC.He has a 53 champ hardtop and a 62 GT.Maybe some other stuff.Anyway,the numbers on my car are Model #56-B-C3 1264
Body #8849926 and Engine #VL7273. I'm sure one of you can tell me about what I have.It has set a long time and the interior is very bad and there is some rust in the trunk and fenders,but not REAL bad.The car is complete except for the door windows and some chrome that probably wouldn't go back on anyway.I intend to keep the Stude power and drivetrain intact but it will not be a complete restore.Kinda wanna make it like a 60's hot rod.Any help for some history would be appreciated.

cooldad72 There will be plenty of opportunity to get ideas and talk with people at the meet,as far as deciphering your numbers someone here will do that for you I,m sure. You can also join SDC on this website at a time of your choosing. See me at the meet and I will give you a sample copy of Turning Wheels.

Cool deal cooldad! Those figures tell this story.

56B means your car was considered a part of the "Commander" series of cars. This because it came with a 259 V8

C = Coupe body
3 = Deluxe trim level
1264 = 1,264th 56B-C3 body tub welded up (BTW, this tub would've been welded up in South Bend)

8849926 = The 926th Commander series car to be assembled in the Los Angeles (Vernon) plant.

VL-7273 = the 972nd 259 engine destined for use in LA-built Commanders. (the engine was built in South Bend, but earmarked for LA production.)

:D

Miscreant at large.

The "1264" is the body number. The "8849926" is not the body number, but rather, is the Serial Number which is usually used now for a VIN (vehicle identification number). In the '50s, most states registered/titled cars by the engine number, but most now change this over to the serial number for a VIN.

You will learn more in one day about your car, than a months worth of reading. If you need parts, or ideas this is the place. Join up. We drove out from NY. Come by and see me........ I have a 56J back in NY, but I can talk for 6 hours on 56 Hawks.
