Body / Glass: Missing hood springs

my 48 Champ has a very heavy hood. And I can not locate the hood lift assist springs. I do locate a
p/n 2845050, in the parts catalog, but can not find an illustration of how they are installed.

On page 247 of my parts manual (1947 to 50) the spring is shown at the right rear at the hood hinge. It appears to go down behind the fender. I just looked at my 48 Champion and the spring goes from the hinge to a spot next to the vent system when you look up under the fender. The spring is not used to help lift the hood. I think it helps keep the back edge down. Be sure to lube the hinge pins. They can be very tight.
