I've read some old posts about this, but none of the techniques have worked yet.

My 51 Champion (custom) has a simple horn button which I removed, I took off the 1 1/4" nut, and the contact/hold-down ring for the horn button.

I used a bearing puller combination that appears to be as close to the official tool (from the shop manual) as I can get without finding that old tool. No luck. Won't budge. I could keep adding turns to the puller but I'm afraid I'll damage the wheel. The material seems somewhat soft and deforms a little when I add pressure. Is this normal?

Any suggestions for getting this thing off?

Had the same issue last year on my '41 Commander (possibly even the same wheel as yours-2 heavy spokes at 3 and 9 o'clock?)

I too, used a split bearing puller from behind, and a properly sized socket in front get on the shaft and still protect the horn wire. After putting the whole thing under load and banging the spokes from behind with my palms failed, I left it under load, and smacked the head of the center puller screw with a mallet. That did the trick.

PB Blaster would not hurt, and its also a good idea to leave the steering wheel nut on loose, so's when the wheel breaks loose it doesn't fly toward you.

Skyway - I tried that, and no luck. May just postpone this part of the restoration until I can find the official tool. Anyone else know the secret?
