I've come across a problem with a 60 Lark V-8 overdrive trans. At first shifting into 3rd was hard, but it worked. Now it wont shift into 3rd & 2nd gear is becoming hard. Fluid levels are good both in the main case & in the overdrive unit. Linkage appears to be aligned & mounts look good. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?

I had a problem a while ago with the retainer ring for the rear main bearing braking and falling off inside the rear housing. This allowed the whole internal main shaft assembly to move and cause shifting problems. this also wore the syncros and the front roller bearings and bearing surface. I hope it's not the same.
