  • Avanti Glove Box

The interior of my 63 R2 had been completely redone and by the looks of it with a new glove box. I found the origional little vanity slide out that goes in the glove box in the trunk. I assume it was removed to install a sterio. It still has a bit of burgandy felt in it. Did all of the Avanti's have black glove boxes and a different color vanity? Does anyone sell the felt for the vanity or should I just try fabric stores?

SI sells replacement felt kits for the glove box and the vanity (console pieces are also included). About $30, IIRC.
They say they're in the correct original dark red/burgandy.
My car's was that color, albeit faded and in bad shape after almost 50 years. I replaced it during restoration and it looks nice.

Others claim the original color glove box /vanity was black...but mine was burgandy.
However, my console felt lining was/is black and I can't imagine someone changing it and NOT doing the glovebox and vanity. Was it originally black?
As with many parts of Avanti restoration, there are different opinions as to what's correct.

63R3152 is burgandy in the glove box as well as the vanity. The factory could have changed they way they did them at some point, though I suppose.

Currently restoring 63R2879, and it has burgandy felt in glove box, black in console.

Yes, Jim. My center console is black as well. Wonder why they chose to use burgandy in the glove box and vanity, but black in the console?

Maybe for neutrality with interior/exterior colors?
