  • Dana Inner Bearing SEAL

I love the attitude here. Dumb questions welcome! Or just inexperienced people (not dumb). So.........here's mine for the day. What is the best way to remove the axle (bearing) inner seal on the Dana axles? Is it best to use a puller--that I don't have? How bad a mistake is it to cut the seal out with a chisel? Is there an easier way? Best to ask before you screw up.

    wagone and the R2 Avanti

    P. S. The only small puller I have MIGHT work only it contacts the rubber part of the seal and merely slips off before exerting any force.

The way I've always done it...you have the axle in your hands, insert about 1-2 inches of the splined end in through the seal, then move the axle from one side to the other as you would a pry bar..It should pop right out. I've never had it fail. Hope this helps.
Dan Miller OBTW, someone once said "the only dumb question is the one not asked", or somethin' like that. We're here to help.
